Orange Drops SBEFrom larrys--(at)--ol.com Tue May 14 13:33:41 CDT 1996 From: larrys--(at)--ol.com (LarrySB) Newsgroups: rec.audio.tubes Subject: Orange Drops Date: 13 May 1996 17:59:51 -0400 Sender: roo--(at)--ewsbf02.news.aol.com Reply-To: larrys--(at)--ol.com (LarrySB) I've always heard lots of talk about Orange Drops. Well, I finally got my data book from the manufacturer. There are lots of different Orange Drops. Here is some info: Orange Drops have been made by SB Electronics for about 10 years now, not Sprague. (no big deal, it seams to be the same actual people). Why do most audio/guitar amp people use the discontinued PS series polyesters? I would think that the preferable choice is the 716P series. They are polypropelene, have very low dissipation factor/ESR, high current and high pulse capability. They have a resonant frequency around 1mhz, stable temperature characteristics, etc etc etc. SB is on the net, they will make caps to your order for $75 setup +cost of parts on qty 1000 or less. (I haven't called to see what the minimums are). Victoria and Dr. Z are said to be using a custom made Orange Drop. Any idea what volume and or type they are using? To see for yourself, http://www.to-be.com/sbe I got my catalog in about 2 days.
