Hi Sam,

Forget patching strips of copper foil (the edges would hafta get
soldered to maintain continuity).

Instead, get some Heavy Duty aluminum foil and a can of 3M spray
contact (or any kinda spray craft cement). Lay the pickguard face down
on an opened up paper grocery bag (not newspaper!) and spritz a light
mist of cement evenly over the p/g back; carefully lift up the p/g and
place on a new, clean, opened up paper grocery bag; CAREFULLY place,
and press, a torn off unwrinkled sheet of the foil onto the p/g; use
an Xacto knife, or single edge razor blade tip, to trim out the p/u
and control holes (cut from the p/g back side). There you have it!
It's easier done than said.

Rob.
