Who sells the kit? The components cost is under $2, so the price probably reflects shipping, packaging and drool-proof instructions. The Guitar Effects Oriented site tells you how to do it in the Schematics section. > How is it sound? It's okay. More upper bass, more drive. I wouldn't call it "silky-sweet" though. Some folks really like it for its better control over soft distortion. It's a nice stocking stuffer. > What is this mod? (Germanium transistor?) This is geek-speak to most folks, so get in touch with a repair tech if it seems too arcane. Given a TS-5, replace resistors R34 and R35 with values of 100 ohms and 10K ohms, respectively. Replace the op-amp with anything but what's in there. The TL072 or TL082 work very well, in my opinion, but premium 4558's are supposedly preferred. It's not that important. > Isn't the TS-9 supposed to be an exact reissue of the TS-808? They are close. The circuit topologies are identical. Only a few components have been changed. In principle, you can interconvert a TS-5, TS-9, and TS-808. -drh --
