On the ones that are actually cut down into the surface of the plastic, you can restore them using this stuff called "Laquer-Stik." Camera technicians use these crayon-looking thingies to restore the paint (that has worn away from finger acid) in engraved camera markings (on lenses, adjustments, etc.) They come in a shitload of colors. Probably someone who posts here knows which camera NG the camera-fixin' dudes hang out on, and you can post there for info on where to get 'em. I have a few I bought 20 years ago, and I haven't used 'em up yet.
