Dumble amps are handbuilt by Alexander (formerly Howard) Dumble in Los
Angeles.

Yes, they are quite expensive. I heard of a used one going for nearly
$10k recently. Supposedly he only makes 2 a year. This may or may not
be true.

Yes, the circuitry is epoxied to keep people from copying it. It is a
work of art inside. Built very sturdily on an aluminum chassis.

I have heard reports of people getting bad tone out of a Dumble. Some
people can get the best tone out of anything, and others can sound like
crap on the best gear. Dumble's are extremely sensitive to picking
dynamics. If you muscle it it will sound bad. "Touch" players like
Carlton, Ford, and Eric Johnson sound great on them.

A Dumble is like a Twin Reverb on steroids. Clean tone is GORGEOUS, and
the overdrive can sound like a cranked Twin or a Deluxe. And plenty of
headroom.

My Overdrive Special is from Dumble's Santa Cruz days. It is "special"
because it has reverb (with seperate send and receive controls). It has
been upgraded to his latest specs with the "Skyline" EQ, and a reverb
master level. Reportedly, it is the one that Lowell George of Little
Feat used prior to his death. And I will NEVER even consider selling it
for any price.
