Subject: Astatic T-3 mod

Can anyone give me some advice on modifying an Astatic T-3. I picked up
this mic for an alternative sound to the Green bullet and Blues Blaster I'm
playing thru. It's got an old Turner element wired thru the swivel and
down about a 3 inch barrel to the mic stand. I have removed the 3" barrel
and replace the old connector with a male XLR and recessed the connector
into the swivel. Here's where I need some of the resident knowledge of the
list. Have most of you that modified the T-3 removed the swivel and just
wired thru the opening in the bottom of the mic shell, or have you
struggled to keep the swivel part of the mic. I'm thinking of losing the
swivel but thought I would consult the list and see what advice I could
get. Also are those elements Hi or low Z?
