Subject: need advice (first vintage amp)

hey all,

SO... i just got my first tube amp. a Silvertone from the 50's, 1x8,
yada yada yada. it came to me with the 3 tubes out of their sockets, and it
has a 2 prong plug. i'm dying to plug it in, but i don't know anything about
tubes, and i've heard of guys getting some nasty shocks from playing amps
that aren't grounded (by the by, my mic is a JT-30 shell with a Shure CM,
and VC. and i have a shure vocal mic, radio shack style.).
i'd much rather not mess with it than hurt myself or the amp or blow a
fuse. can anyone guide me here? should i pop the tubes in and fire it up?
have an amp tech look at it? say a little prayer? what??

signed,
