<< agree with you that harmonica is still an anomoly in pop music. A few
corrections:>>

<< ---I have friends in Huey's band, and have met and played with HL. He
seems
to be content being an in demand act for Vegas, corporate work and
mid-level
auditoriums. Huey could get no major label interested in this fine,
original, rootsy Stax/Memphis album. >>
not that you implied it, but i meant nothing bad about him being on
silvertone. in fact, as unfortunate as it is that he had to go to a smaller
label, i'm impressed that he would say, "hey, this is what i want to do...i
don't need to compete in the rat race." it always bugs me when artists say,
"yeah, but i'd rather be doing...", especially when said artist is
financially set.

<<"Workin" peaked at #41 ---Highest chart position with harp--comin in at
#6...
HEART OF ROCK & ROLL-- pop song with mucho harp---even a big solo!>>
d'oh! you are sooo right...mea culpa...

i had said...
>stevie wonder...okay, but still known to most people for his singing and
>songwriting.

<<--and what is wrong with that? This harmonica player could never be
called
a
lesser musician. How many FAMOUS instrumentalists can you name that are
ONLY
known for their instrument (besides voice)?>>
agreed. but i was originally talking about people ~primarily~ known for
harp. to me, that still leaves only popper. for wonder, harp would come
after keyboard playing, i think (although i think his harp work is more
instantly recognizable). harp would come before drumming, which he also
does
so well, as i know you know.
i am tempted to answer hendrix, clapton, miles...but you're right. they all
wrote music as well. i guess i can't think of any famous instrumentalist
who
didn't do something more...maybe jerry lee lewis.

<< -Most of the public has never heard of Tommy Morgan, Tommy Tedesco, Terry
McMillan, etc either but I'll bet they are in millions of people's record
collections as sidemen.
--Jimmy Z Zavala -Rita Coolidge, Eurythmics (MISSIONARY MAN!!) Carole King,
Tom Petty, Rick Springfield, Rod Stewart, Eric Burdon>>
or hal blaine, and tons of other wonderful players. but i was talking about
famous ~players~. if jimmy z or tommy morgan were to appear on tv, it would
be as exciting to most folks as saying, "look, it's danny kortchmar and roy
bittan." unfortunate, i concur.
i will make a point of hearing zavala's playing, but probably not in the
context of yes.

<< -OR ANY INSTRUMENT RIGHT NOW--EVEN GUITAR. They call N-STINC and the
BS-BOYZ, boy "bands". They are not bands they are singing groups like the
Temps, Four Tops and about the same age as those groups were in the
beginning of their careers.>>
i thought about the first part of this today. in rock, emphasis continues
to
be on guitar, bass, and drums, sometimes keyboards. pop music is
overwhelmingly dominated by keyboards and drum sounds. you're right, in pop
music guitar is treated like a harp...it's used for the occasional
flavoring.
the second part intrigues me (warning...no harp). i had never thought about
that, although i would draw parallels with the new kids, obviously. i was
tempted to say the osmonds, but a couple of them played one or more
instruments. the difference, to me, anyway, is that the tempts et al had
great songs that were made into great sounding records. and many of those
songs have been reworked over the years, and the songs still hold up. i
can't imagine that much of the current pop stuff will be covered, as they
are
mostly records without much of a song. of course, i'm forty, and my
inflexibilty is starting to bother me...and i digress...

<< -BV Social Club of the blues would be great. I just don't think that old
American black musicians are as sexy to H'wood as the Cuban thing. Don't
forget, Latinos are "in" and politically correct.>>
tell ricky martin! seriously, the latin market is huge now, and will only
continue to grow. that said, i don't think most of the bueno vista cocial
club albums ended up in the hands of latinos.

<< You have great points Gator.>>

as do you mr. peloquin...a real pleasure...
