speaking of wanting to see a Buena Vista Social Club of the Blues kinda thing, i just thought i'd remind everyone that Eliades Ochoa, probably my favorite of the BVSC players, has an album called Sublime Ilusion, which features Charlie Musselwhite on at least one track. (i don't have the CD handy). Charlie's own album Continental Drifter also has a few tracks where he's backed by a band made up, i think, of some of Eliades' players (maybe even Eliades himself. again, i don't have the CD handy). i don't think his harp playing is necessarily all that "latin" (sounds pretty much like blues harp to me) but it's still good music and i'm glad he tried. i'd be curious to hear more.
on the same topic: anyone know of any recordings of Howard Levy's days playing latin music? (not the Brazilian stuff, i mean like Caribbean...) or any other diatonic player trying their hand at salsa, merengue, plena, guajira, etc...?
