This is true, thats why its much harder to accompany "tastefully," than it
is
to just kind wander off soloing. A good example of this is Walter horton
playing on the "Chicago/The Blues/ Today! Volume 3" record. His backup
playing with Johnny Shines and Johnny Young is impeccable. Horton kills it,
and this shows that there is no wonder why he was a first call harp player
in
Chicago. If you can develop tasteful and solid accompanying skills you will
get more gigs than say someone who has twice the chops you do. Taste always
wins out , and taste shines forth the strongest in a harp player during his
accompaniment.
