Awesome stuff. (Thanks for the link & info Bobbie)
Yep - I've been watching a deep down blues harmonica man learning Jazz on
the chromatic, whilst slowly taking on the new progressions and standards he
always goes back to his blues chops for the depth of soul and tonal
expression - that matters far more to him than playing "intellectually".
Blues is a fantastic basis to get well and truely grounded in before
striding into Jazz.

I reckon there are blues men out there with more soul, strength, imagination
and feeling in their music than I've heard in some examples of Jazz where
those concepts are left behind for more intellectual things. I think there
is a happy medium which allows the intellect to stretch out and explore
whilst involving the heart & soul of music in rhythm, feeling & expression.
IMHO Sometimes being limited to a few notes can bring out the best in a
musician.

Mike Turk is my hero and leading light for playing Jazz on the chromatic.
I really enjoy his expression, his phrasing and precision. I really enjoy
listening to the one CD I have of his and hope to get the rest of his
material soon. Fantastic Jazz musician, and another man whos grown from the
blues harmonica.

Just my thoughts.

Go well
