Subject: Re: ASCII Tab Idea

Anyone who wants to use tab should be welcome to do so.

Anyone who wants to play with anyone who plays an instrument other than
harp, in a style other than blues, folk, or rock, is well advised to
learn standard notation.

Last week I was in San Diego, and I sat in with Tim Maglione's duo at a
place called Jimmy Love's. The material was all jazz standards, many of
which I didn't know. Maglione had charts in standard notation for all
the material, and with those charts I was able to play the pieces more
or less acceptably on sight.

I presume that it's obvious that Maglione didn't have any charts in harp
tab of any sort.

Whether or not you use tab, your options as a musician are severely
limited if you're not comfortable with standard notation. In that
sense, standard notation is not optional or replaceable.

Thanks, Richard Hunter
