Subject: Re: Scrapple from the Apple in 12 Keys

hi y'all,

sorry if this is a repeat, but i thought i posted this and i never saw it
get posted, so i'm trying again:

i checked out the sound clips from Tinus's site. i started with "C" and
worked my way around the circle of 5ths so i could keep track of the
positions, and i was impressed at how very similar each take was. the last
one, "F," was the only one that jumped out at me as sounding rough. i was
very, very impressed.
that having been said, i think this "test" is going in the wrong direction.
it would be much more interesting to hear 'Scrapple from the Apple' played
*differently* in all 12 keys, taking advantage of the relative strengths of
each position. in some keys, octaves might be very useful, in another key,
chords may be available. there's also the warbles, double-stops, and
tritones, or wailing bends, screeching overblows, overdraws, etc, which can
be useful in some keys/positions but not in others. also, some versions
could be minor-keyed while others major. while playing Scrapple from the
Apple in all 12 keys on one harp may be something to strive for, i'll be
much more impressed when i hear 12 different cool versions of the tune --
one for each key/position.

again, thanks tinus!
