I've had a 545S for quite awhile now and always loved it. Great tone, punch,
volume, etc. Mine was wired low-z and I was using it with a low-to-hi-z
transformer, like Mark mentioned. Today I just got it back from a tech whom
I'd asked to switch the mic internally to hi-z and install a male 1/4" plug
on the amp end of the cord. DAMN! I loved the 545S before, but it sounds a
lot better now, it's a lot hotter. If you're using a dual impedance 545 or
545S set on low z with a transformer (thinking that's boosting it up to hi
z, as I did), I suggest you switch the mic to hi z pronto. Better tone and
no messing with the converter. YMMV.
