Pope Pius XI was born on this day in 1857. While I'm not certain whether or not he actually played or not, the Hohner Harmonica Company built a harmonica for the Pope in the 1930's that is reputed to be the most expensive ever constructed. The instrument was made of gold and ivory and encrusted with precious gems.
Country music pioneer Mac Odell was born on this day in 1916. Odell played several instruments, including the harmonica. He began performing in the early 1930's on the WLS and WJJD radio stations as well as making records. >From the 1950's on he worked primarily as a songwriter.
That's all I have for today. Have fun and practice.
