Actually Jensens aren't made any longer either. There are pseudo
replicas being made by an Italian company called Recoton that owns the
rights to the Jensen brand name. In the case of early 60's and late
50's Champs we're talking about the speakers that came with the amp and
both brands can be reconed by a competent rpair person in posession of
the correct recone kit. I've personally had very good luck using Gregg
Hopkins in St. Louis. My White amps both shipped with Oxford 8Ev's in
them. The Champ version is just a 4 ohm instead of an 8 ohm. I tried a
Jensen in one of my Whites and hated it. Same era reconed as an 8 ohm.
The Oxford had a better bottom and was much darker sounding, it broke up
very nicely and had that teriffic mid range bark I look for in
speakers. The Jensen by contrast was very strident and way too clean
sounding. Granted different speakers sound good in different amps but
the Whites are pretty similar to the Champs of that era. I think a
guitar player would prefer the Jensen but I much prefer the Oxfords.
