The question was asked regatrding on which holes tongue blockers use the technique. Until yesterday I was pretty much using it 1-6, bent and unbent, and on chorded stuff 6-10 as long as the notes weren't bent. I switch back and forth between tb and pucker. Anyhow at Buckeye a year ago I'd asked Joe Filisko how he managed to tb bend the upper register and since that time I've been trying to figure it out for myself. Yesterday I inadvertently discovered I could get an overblow on 6 using a tongue block embouchure and immediately realised that if I could block the overblow then the bends should be available too. Sure enough they were, 7-10 blow bends and they all are stable. The overblow wasn't but that glimpse has me convinced I can figure those out too. What precipitated this discovery is my trying to figure out how to switch my holding hand. I play holding right, cupping left but with the numbers up. Because of this I end up playing quite angled which leaves me with a unique technique and sound but missing much of the conventional harmonica repetoire of sounds. Something about playing straight on made the high end blow bends easier to get. I'm pretty excited by this discovery. I'm a long way from actually using any of this in performance and my cat runs cringing from the room as I practise but at least I have something to start the work on now. fjm
