Comedian and harmonica player Herb Shriner was born on this day in 1918. Herb began his career as a harmonica, but added comedy later to fill in the gaps between songs. During the 1950's he assembled an orchestra of some of the finest harmonica players in the business.
Folk singer-songwriter, guitar and harmonica player Eric Von Schmidt was born on this day in 1930. Von Schmidt was a very active part of the Cambridge, Massachusetts Folk scene in the late 50's and early 60's and he heavily influenced a young Bob Dylan.
Birthday Greetings go out to our good friend and harmonica club organizer Jack Ely, who was born on this day in 1936. Jack is one of the biggest supporters of the Buckeye harmonica club and he's a big reason why Ohio has such an active harmonica community. Our best wishes go out to Jack!!!
Harmonica band player Tony Sgro celebrates a birthday today as well. Tony works with his brother Dom in a duet, The Sgro Brothers. The two have worked togather since the 1950's with Johnny Puleo's and Herb shriners bands.
That's all I have for today. Have fun and practice.
