Subject: Re: reed thickness...

Hi,

Pat and Tim have already pointed that gator-man obviously has mixed
the reed length with the reed thickness.

May I add an idea I got when reading the posts. By physical reasons
the reed thickness has no influence to the pitch but to the responsiveness.

Nevertheless, curious as I am I measured not only the lengths (long time
ago), thus learning the difference of short/long-slotted reeds, but also the
reed thicknesses of Hering and Hohner chromatics. Interesting was that
the Hering reeds are a little bit thinner than Hohner's and explain two
differences of these brands.

Hering chroms are more responsive but the Hohner tuning is more steady.

Hmmmh, if I would live alone on an island and had the choice between a
Hering or a Hohner, I would prefer the better tuning.
