IMM,
I would think that you, like myself, consider yourself an independent
contractor and not anyone's employee. I have always understood this to be
not unlike the situation of any contractor, plumber, etc. who RUNS his
business from the home but JOBS at different and mostly changing
sites/venues. I have always taken mileage to all gigs. I have understood
that if I played in the same club all the time that I would then be
commuting.
I know that there has been an ongoing controversy regarding musicians as
independent contractors vs. employees. This has been on many tax issues such
as withholding, FICA and deductions.
