I sometines Use a tuner but only when there is no keyboard to be found.
The best thing i a keyboard, to check.
I start out playing the not and trying to find the right pitch and then
check against the piano.
In trying to get the pitch right in the first place it helps to play in
intervals.

You probably know what a perfect fith up should sound like so play the D
first (hole 1d) and then the A (a hole 3bb)

Or play a perfect 5th lower than the note you are trying for on the piano,
then play the bend note and check against the piano.

Learning to get the little light on the tuner to stand still is not very
usefull. learning to play in tune with other notes is.

Don't try to practice your intonation with intervals like thirds because
then you move into the realm of temperement and just intonation and you
don't want to go there.
