thank you Darol, I'll check those other tubes out. I know what you mean
about that elusive sound, I actually sent the chassis of this DeVille out to
John Kinder in Moreno Valley, CA where I got a "Mod 2" performed on it.
THis is the same guy who built the Harp King with Rod Piazza. I'm not
exactly sure what the secret to the mod is, it may have been simply changing
a couple of capacitors, but the mids have definitely come alive. I also
have a monster MusicMan HD 150 2x12, this was my main amp until the mod, but
now I feel obligated to put the DeVille through its paces, and after lugging
around the MusicMan, the Fender isn't all that hefty. Here's Kinder's web
site for those interested http://www.kinder-instruments.com/.
Thanks again. J.

James,
Facing the back of the amp, from the power tubes out I used
a 12 AU then 12 AY then 12 AX.
I really liked using that amp, but just couldnt quite get the sound I
wanted. Went to a Bassman RI with
this same tube set up. Iam now using a 65 RI Twin Reverb and like it
better than the previous two amps.
Changed one pre amp tube to a 12AU and can really crank this amp up. This
amp is rated at 85+ watts
and is just what Ive been looking for. Good Luck to You, and I hope your
back holds out.
