Subject: RE: Racks (in search of the fabled Blues Tools)

A good modification to the standard Hohner rack is the addition of conical
washers (aka Belleville washers) at the wing-nut joint. (Vern Smith gets
the credit for this one.)

I found the washers at Home Depot.

I also replaced the screw and wing nut with a plastic knob which has a
threaded shaft. That part I found at a well-stocked hardware store. It's
just a bit easier on the fingers than the wing-nut.

Before I did the above, I used to just tighten the wing-nut really tight
with vise grips, and leave it that way. A contortionistic twisting motion
was good enough to screw the rack onto my head. (Sounds worse than it was,
and I have a large head.)

I also hold those swinging l-brackets in place with baling wire.

Getting that harp to stay in front of your mouth is critical to success
with the rack. If anybody decides to pick up the ball and produce the Blues
Tools rack again, let me know.
