Subject: A thought on Positions

With diatonic harmonica I find that the idea of positions serves more of a
function of describing where the bends can be found, as no note on the
diatonic is equal.

Although whilst saying 4th position doesn't tell you whether you are playing
Natural minor, Melodic minor or harmonica minor (or major ... etc), it does
tell you that the first note is a draw bend on 3 - and that is something
that "Key of A minor" won't tell you.

The term "positions" does have its uses in describing the location of bends,
but I also temper it with ... key of A natural minor, so those around me
understand.

With the chromatic harmonica this is less so, since effectively every note
is bendable, and plays more like a keyboard than the diatonic - but its easy
to see how the thinking gets transferred from diatonic to chromatic.
Whatever works I say!
