Is this a boast or a confession? Popper is still the most tastless player
out there, IMO. I'll remind folks here that Jon
Parales in a New York Times review described his playing as "dizzying runs
that go up and down the scale and end nowhere," and
that it "seems to be a contest to pack as many notes into a measure as
possible."
I know there are plenty of JP fans on this list, and y'all are certainly
entitled to your tastes, but JP has been panned by one
of the country's leading critics.
On the positve side, JP has lost 180 lbs- a real healthy move. Long life to
Popper-may he go on offending discerning ears for
years to come.
