Subject: A question about wood Hohner combs

Hello, Harp-L'ers.

Well, to give a bit of historic background, I started playing harp ten
years ago with a Hohner Blues Harp, when they were HM. I had one in C and
one in A, and when the one in A died, I replaced it with a new MS.

Later the one in C died also and I got a Pro Harp (also MS). The only
difference between the Blues Harp and the Pro Harp is the comb (wood vs.
plastic) - the covers are the same shape. I have also a Blues Harp MS in F
and a Pro Harp in Bb.

Recently I bought a Marine Band HM in D, and I found a thing that I had
already experienced with my old handmade Blues Harps: when I play the wood
swells some and it's a bit hard on the lips.

It has never happened to me with the MD Blues Harps.

So - why does the wood swell in the HM Hohners swell but it does not in the
MS ones? Is the type of wood? The design / assembly?

Jaime
