Subject: The search for tone/ Amplifiers

I appreciate the idea that tone comes from the player and not the equipment.
However, I am of the opinion presently that I can only sqeeze so much out of
my
Pignose HOG 30 (solid state). I need to get something with tubes for the
smoother
signal clipping when overdriven.

Anyone have other opinions? I looking for info that might change mine.

(FYI I wouldn't say that I'm a beginner anymore. I'm not good enough to
make a
living playing. However, I don't think I would embarrass myself in any
setting.
I'd say I'm in the high end of intermediate--not quite advanced. I can get
pretty
decent tone out of my present rig, but it's not quite the sound I'm looking
for.)

Thanks for the past and future help with this decission,

Will
