Subject: Low harps as skill enhancers

It's a great idea to use Low key harps
to strenghten one's embouchure
and techniques.
Recently, I posted a reply to
a fellow harp - eller
suggesting a tb bending method :
the main point was to do a tb
bend saying ECHO in your mind ;
while you attempt to tb bend
try and pronounce
the K spot of the word ECHO
with the back of your tongue.

Having tried this on a
pre-gapped Low F on holes 1-3
I noticed that I met only a little resistance
so as to get them to bend.

Regarding tb ,
it may be a good idea
for those stubborn low bends
found on Low keyed harps.

I've also noticed
how hard it is to overblow a Low harp.
I've succeded in getting a hole 1 Low F
overblow but only after gapping it.
(but I think it's very hard to get these long
heavy reeds to settle, so it might have
reverted to its original positioned
even after I had given it the very first try)

It's makes a - to my ears - trombone, or elephant's
honking sound .
I've recorded it only to closely see what happens.
It was so hard to get that I made a loud
" ppfffff " hiss underneath while sounding it,
but it was another good exercise, along with the
rest overblows, despite the difficulty
I had to get each one of them,
in order to strengthen my tb bends and
overblows on a regular F harp.

Subject: High G - Low F harps

For serious diatonic students -

One facet of "Zen Gunslinging" philosophy is to own a Low F (mine is a
Special 20) and a High G (mine is an old Golden Melody).

Practice all your current techniques and/or tunes on both - (Play "Whammer
Jammer", "Juke", bending to pitch, high end blow bends, etc etc).

The point is not to use this in performance, as a High G Whammer Jammer
sounds pretty funny. This discipline will help you solve many problems in
your technique/approach.

Believe me, when you finally master the LOW D techniques (2 hole full bend,
etc), playing a Low F, G, or even your A harp will be a new experience for
you.

Can you play the 10 hole blow bend smoothly on a High G harmonica?
