Well, reeds from different makers tend to have their own peculiarities, but
in this case I think it is more to do with the different construction of
the harp.

For a couple of years now, I have been toying with ideas that involve an
additional reed chamber on the outside of the reedplate, including a design
which is basically the same as Suzuki's Overdrive Harp. I've found that
this tends to alter the tone, pitch and response of the reed, so that it
requires quite different settings to how it would under a normal cover. The
big problem I had with my prototypes of this particular design, was getting
the finger holes in the ideal place, so I am somewhat reassured to find
this is the case with Suzuki's version.

BTW Winslow, do you have any more comments on the Swan harps you have been
testing?
