Hi List,
Need some advice. I've recently started playing harp kind of regularly at church (in addition to my primary job as bassist and occasional job as fill in guitar player). My current set-up is a Shure sm58 through a Vox distortion pedal into an Alsis microverb. This enables me to work clean through the PA and switch the distortion at will. Overall this setup is not too bad although the distortion pedal effect is only so/so. The real problem is with running through the PA the harp monitor mix is too hot for the singers but not loud enough for me. Ideally, I'd like to run my harp into an amp and mic/line out the amp. Then I would not need a monitor mix, just run through the mains. However, I really do NEED the ability to play clean AND overdriven/bluesy. Any thoughts on an alternate set-up? Additionally, I have played the Crate VC508 (through a Shure sm58), great amp clean and distorted :), not foot-switchable between clean and distortion :(. Would I run it clean and still use a distortion pedal in line? Is that "Wrong" to do with a tube amp? Tube amps with switchable channels tend to be much larger and expensive, both undesirable traits... What about those tube pedals and a solid state amp (which I already have)? Any input on the difference between Tubeworks Real tube vs Blue Tube? Anyone with any directbox/Sansamp type experience? Any Direct boxes with tubes?... Never played through a "harp" Mic. Can you get a clean and distorted sound through these mics or do they all tend to "overdrive"/ be hot? What Mic is better run through a guitar processor (i.e. Digitech GSP7)? Have I heard that a crystal element Mic isn't really good through effects units? Is a Green Bullet better (I like the idea of volume control)? Sorry for the flurry of questions but does anyone have any recommendations ? Feel free to respond off list as I'm sure many of these topics have been touched on before.
