Subject: reeds, nail varnish and blues-l

Well, I took Bobbie G. and Pat M.'s advice, stole my wife's bottle of nail
varnish (actually, I believe Bobbie uses wax), and sat down to apply it to the
corners of the reeds. Unfortunately, my first outing was a complete failure;
all I did was spread gobs of varnish over all the reeds, stopping most of them
up completely. Today's outing will consist of buying an industrial-size bottle
of varnish remover. Nonetheless, I will continue undeterred until I can play
overblows with the ease of draw bends! One question in this regard: From my
reading of the archived messages, I should be applying wax/varnish from that
side of the reed plate which holds the reeds (i.e. the "outside" of the draw
reed plate and the "inside" of the blow reed plate). However, since I'm using
Golden Melody harps which do not have (easily) removable reed plates, I can't
get at the inside of the blow reed plate. Is this an insurmountable problem, or
can I apply varnish to the undersides of the blow reeds as well?

In another vein, I subscribed to blues-l three days ago, was overwhelmed with
messages and underwhelmed with content, and am off the list as of today. All of
those who replied to my earlier message can now say "I told you so" ....
