Subject: Re: Using Delrin for combs

Hi All,

On June 16, Denis Aldrich talked about using Delrin for
making combs.
I have been making plastic combs for the Chord, 280 Chro,
270 Chro & Miesterklas for many years. Initially, I started
using Delrin but then changed to clear Lucite (Acrylic). I have always
attached the plates by threading the plastic. The problem
with Delrin was that if someone stripped the thread in Delrin
you were not able to drill and plug the stripped hole and
re-tap it, due to the fact that nothing will stick to Delrin
where as a tap can be glued into Acrylic very easily.
Also, I was informed by many professional Harmonica
players that I had done work for, that they thought the
sound was brighter on the hard Acrylic.

Regarding machining, Acrylic is just as easy to machine
if not easier and can be buffed to a very high gloss.

Hope this helps.
