On Wed, 25 Jun 1997, Harmonica John waltzed on tootsies, saying:

Sorry to differ with you, friend, but I do feel you may be missing the focus of the H-L Tape. When Steve Jennings proposed this [pretty sure it was you, eh, Steve?] the notion was as Joe has been describing...little more than a taped harpers jam for Harp-L members to express themselves and share their mutual fascination with the joys of harmonica playing... good, bad, hohum... whatever. No one HAD to participate, no one HAD to buy, no one HAD to listen... a totally open door concept to any and all H-Lers for promoting camaraderie. As good as both tapes turned out with regard to this aim, I've already lost my nerve to submit anything after the second one. Great tape... better than expected... sheez, sure glad I didn't show my butt on it!! But that's my choice. Any notion that this project should exclude the more "painful" offerings is just the sort of thing that promotes apprehension like mine.
And I WOULD rate the level of accomplishment and musicality as having risen with the second, so the third stands to be more awesome than even that, which is great if it is! And well, if it swells to a double or triple tape [it could happen!] all the more power to it... I just hope Mic'l has considered that possibility. If that does happen, though, nothing says that couldn't be the starting point for Harp-L tape IV. In fact, as a suggestion, perhaps the accumulation of material could be an ongoing affair, where submissions could be taken year round to be compiled when enough for a tape is collected, at which time Mic'l could begin dubbing the final tapes. [Hey, M'l... Like how I volunteered you for a lifetime of sacrificial toil? You're welcome...]

Super! And IF they wish to contribute their wares, how lucky we'll all be! I would no more blank them out than anyone else, though, and they should know that's how it is and deal with their own demons about whether to get on the tape. But banning them would be no different nor desirable than discouraging players like me.

Er... ouch? Remember, I'm down here in Tallahassee. I know Jim Bob Billy Ray. Jim Bob Billy Ray is a friend of mine. And HJ...you're no.........
Of course, that ain't necessarily be a bad thing. Don't lose sleep over it.
My only real suggestion for the Harp-L tapes is to punch out the record protection tabs on the tape when you receive it. [Yes, I actually "did" you know what. Duh. I'm so ashamed. Well, it was ONLY a little segment! Er, sorry about that, too, HJ... yes, I actually "did"........ sigh.]
