[please live with the spelling and typo's, I'm tired]
Well, although we aren't yet 100% sure, we think we've found the problem adn solved it (we being Pete, Bobbie and myself). That's the good news for those amongst you who don't care what the problem is just as long as it's fixed.
As far as I can tell, a student who was subscribed to harp-l has taken their Easter break without unsubscribing. Their mail-box has quickly filled up (partly my fault :-) and the over flow has been going into the Universities dead-mail filter. This scans through anything too old (about 3-4 days) and forwards it on to see if the offending mail-box is free yet. Only, because harp-l is set up to make it appear that anything forwarded on by majordomo (the list-sever) has come directly from the source, it was being sent as if from the source to majordomo again and being re-delivered to us all. Or at least that's what I reckon. Anyone who disagrees can do so all they like. I'm tired and I'm going home in few minutes so you can argue amongst yourselves. Anyway, that's the good news.
The bad news is that, because the messages we've received are 3-4 days old, unless I can get in contact with someone at this university or the person concerned, we are going to get increasingly more of these things for the next 3-4 days until we reach the point where I cut them off. So it looks like I will be in tommorow to read the "you're a fool and you've cut off someones account for nothing" flames after all.
Right, I'm going home. Nobody throttle anybody whilst I'm gone. I wouldn't want to miss the fun parts after what I've been through today :-)
