Subject: Re: Legendary harp

opollo asked:

>Is it just my imagination or do wood combed harp's sound
>better than plastic?<

and Vern answered:

>>It is just your imagination.<<

Delightful, thrilling and of concise and humouristic shortness. This time,
Doug tate (as he actually spells himself) will surely has nothing to say
against because the Renaissance sounds neither wooden nor plasticky but
metallic.

BTW, Doug, your reply to Vern:

>Does it think... Nah,, Don't want to go that way...
>I'll just go out with the air... too hard to go through the metal????

is delightful too, but Vern said that >>... the sound does not
need to travel through any part of the harp material to reach your ear.<<

The "basic misconception when considering harp sound" is yours, otherwise one
could assume that you believe the harp material transmits the reed vibrations
as accoustical noticeable phenomena. Furthermore, this would mean that you
could hear your own playing even then if you prevent the vibrating air column
to leave the reed chambers.

Following your 'concept' in your entertaining style, the reeds would ask
themselves:

Hay, what's the matter? Somebody has closed the chamber doors we normally use
as our alleged single way to human ears. Well, let's take our direct way no
factory knows of but which is preferable by the increasing air pollution and
other problems.

Well, let's hope that Vern's SPAH seminar will clear this everlasting saga a
little.
