Try wiring the mic high impedance only instead of dual balanced. Start with the treble on 2. Install a 1/4" input jack so you can disconnect the cord. (Tom Ellis frowns on this) Be aware of the amp in the room and keep it out of corners and away from walls. If it has 12" speakers forget it in most cases. If you used an Astatic before this forget everything you know about amp settings and start again. If you use reverb turn it way down. Try turning off the brightness switch or if it has a presence control turn it down some. If the amp has middle controls start in the lower end and go up. Mids are better sounding than the highs so abandon the treble response in favour of the middle. If it's a Fender amp do use some treble because the tone controls in the off position roll of the gain big time. 2 is usually a safe bottom for the treble. Be aware that your volume setting will only be varied between 2 which is off and about 4 which is very loud in a big room. Maybe 5 if it's a huge stage. If it's a master volume amp experiment with which knob you get the volume the master or the gain. I think I remember that on my master volume Twin the thing to do was barely use the master and get the volume from the gain. Now if none of this works then you can get the wallet out and buy an eq or new amp. fjm
