During and before the European Harp Festival, there was a discussion about a categorie 'Chromatic-Jazz-Competition' on the World-Harmonica-Championship 1997.
Everybody who is interested in this catagorie should write a letter to Mr. Kutzli, in which he/she expresses his/her concern and desire to include this catagorie.
The following letter was distributed by Hohner during the European Harp Festival: - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Do You Like Jazz
European Harp-Festival 1996 in Trossingen: as with other World-Harmonica-Championships before harmonica- and Harp-Competitions have been programmied for various categories including even the discipline 'Solo Diatonic Jazz Melody'.
In vain, however, you will be looking for Chromatic-Jazz-Competition!!
According to the Organisation Committee of Federation Internationale De l'Harmonica this is due to the lack of interest of participants.
Do You Agree?
Toots Thielemans, the worldwide supposed most famous and popular Harmonicaplayer is playing Chromatic Jazz, as everybody knows. Not to include this category in the competition is discriminating and diminishing the outstanding performances of Toots Thielemans, William Galison and of many other Chromatic-Jazz-Harmonica players!! If you share my opinion please write immediately to the following address, expressing you concern and your desire to include Chromatic-Jazz 1997 at the Harmonica-Championship in Trossingen
Address: Federation Internationale De l'Harmonica Mr. Kutzli Postfach 1150 D-78635 Trossingen
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although I don't agree with some sentences in this letter, especialy :" Not to include this category in the competition is discriminating and diminishing the outstanding performances of Toots Thielemans, William Galison and of many other Chromatic-Jazz-Harmonica players!!" (why should it discriminate and diminish their performance?), the idea is fine and I think as many as possible people should write Mr. Kutzli.
Also very interesting: Didi Neumann's article "Kommentar: Festival-Kategorien". published in 'Harmonica Player' No. 2 Sommer '96. Maybe he should publish this article on the Harp-List. It would become a fine discussion-subject!!!
