Subject: William Clarke

I saw WIlliam Clarke this weekend at the Twist and Shout, in Bethesda,
MD. He was incredible. That was one of the best blues shows I've ever
seen. He's really recovered from his illnesses and he's stopped drinking
and lost 60 pounds (but he's still a pretty big guy!). Clarke has
incredible tone and a very unique style. He is from the west coast/George
Smith school of blues harp, but he's no Smith imitator. See him if you
get a chance.

I also saw Bobby Radcliff this weekend at the T&S and my friend Bruce
Ewan (Bobby's brother) sat in on harp and vocalas. Bruce is one of the
best harp players in the DC area, and IMHO one of the best blues
chromatic players. He can play chromatic jazz like Toots and turn around
and sound like Big Walter, Little Walter or Sonny Boy on diatonic. Bruce
isn't a full time musician, but he does play a few times a month in the
DC area. His band, The Solid Senders, play mostly at the Olde Town Tavern
in Gaithersburg. He has also toured Brazil, and he might be putting out a
cd there. See him if you get a chance.

Piazza's at the Twist and Shout Oct. 6 (same day as the DC Blues SOciety
jam). I expect to see lots of harp players at that show.
