I agree with his statement. But when you play it back, do it on the stereo's
cassette deck. You'll be amazed how wel lthat little condeser mic does its
job when you hear it in the big speakers.

While we're on the topic, four track cassette recorders are a great way to
get into recording your music. You can get starter them for as low as $300
and they aren't bad, for starter kits,
though you'll provbably veryu soon wish you had a better one. Mine is a
little bit more expensive, about $600. (Tascam 364) And of course you need
to add mikes to the cost if you're just starting out. In addition, you
probably want a reverb unit for singing, if that's part of your gig. If you
want to mike your band live, you've got four inputs. If you want to build a
song track by track, or just jam with yourself, you can play guitar on track
one, rewind, then harp on track two, rewind, sing, on track three, and so
on. Playing just harp, you can jam with yourself laying down a ryhthm on
track one, do some riffs on track two etc. These machines have mixers built
into them so during play back, and mixing into a stereo recorder, you can
alter the volume and eq of each separate channel. The big names in these
machines are teac and fostex. I work with my 4 track almost every day,
playing harp, guitar and voice on the songs I'm learning. If I want, I mix
those three channels together and add a lead guitar, and a harmonizing voice
on the channels that I freed up. You can do really good stuff on them. But of
course, 4 tracks are only the beginning in home recording technology, but
they're an easy, affordable and, when used correctly, amazingly high quality
beginning. Jon
