The Nightcats are one of the best blues bands I have ever seen.
They are the perfect combination of professionalism, muscianship,
showmanship and plain old fun. A typical Nightcats set includdes a bunch
of different styles from rockabilly to Chicago blues, but all of it
swings like crazy. The band consists of Little Charlie Baty; guitar, Rick
Estrin; vocals and harmonica, Dobie Strange on drums and former Mark
Hummel bassist (and ordained minister?) Vance Elhers.
Rick is truly one of the best harp players on the scene today,
and the only guy I've seen who can do the SBWII trick with the bottom end
of the harp stuffed in his mouth while still playing amazing licks. And
he writes most of the bands tunes.
The Nightcats are so good and so entertaining that I even recommend
them to non-blues fans. Good date band.
Go see them and let me know what you think.
