Although college professors of harmonica are almost nonexistant, there is a fine tradition of taking "coaching" with a teacher of a different instrument. Many but not all colleges permit this. You wouldn't learn the mechanics of playing (You can get that from Tate's book anyway) but you could learn a lot about playing music.
As a French horn major at Indiana University, I was fortunate to study with trombonist/composer Thomas Beversdorf as well as hornist Abe Kniaz.
As French horn and recorder professor at Montgomery College, I turned down a chromatic harmonica major because I thought he would do better with a reed or flute teacher. Shame on me. The student never found a teacher as far as I know. (I knew nothing of harmonica at the time)
