Not on the one that i use. It is from an old WWII surplus headset and i ran
it right into a 1/4" jack.

The downside is that you will have some severe tonal rolloff at both ends.
It sounds good through some systems because it presents a narrower range of
freqs to the amp. This is common in communications systems audio chains
where the dynamics and frequency range must be kept stable to keep
modulation/deviation under control without extra limiting circuitry.
