I've seen Charlie perhaps 15 or 20 times over the past decade, and
he's always played through a PA mic straight into the board. When
I've asked him about it, he said that he only liked to use amps in
the studio, and then sparingly. However, at the Memphis Music and
Heritage festival he was playing what looked like a Shure 58 plugged
into a blackface fender - not sure what model. I had assumed it was
simply the harp rig that the festival provided (at many festivals, it
is much easier to simply set up a row of amps and have players use
them instead of bringing their own), but if he was playing one
elsewhere, I suppose it could be his new rig. I didn't think to ask.
