Of course you know that smoking pot will give you "cotton mouth" so if you
do, don't. I used to use it as an excuse to get stoned so that I would not
slobber too much while playing.

There is probably more to the nervousness and stress factors than anything.
Relax! You are your own worst critic. Everyone in the audience wants you to
do well. The only one who wants you to play badly is some beginning harper
in the back so he can say"I could have played that".
