Subject: Chromatic

Jim Bassett asks me to expand on 'ruining achromatic harmonica.'
Dangerous..... !
Basically, when you start a new instrument, especially if you are a raw
beginner, the amount of saliva going into the instrument is quite great, you
are not certain how hard to blow reeds etc.
IMO it is the blowing bit which does the most harm. Mastering the technique
of starting notes cleanly at the volume level you intend to carry it on is
vital to the life length of the reeds. Too many beginners tend to get
volume by nearly choking the note with pressure. Rather like weight
lifting, technique allows you do impossible things easily. (sorry, that was
off subject!)
So, overblowing (not overblow notes) ruins instruments, beginners overblow,
first instruments get ruined. Simplistic but QED
