Along these (odd) lines, and this goes back to the thread about cheap off-the-wall mics:
A lot of small stereos have mixing mic jacks. A while back I thought I might play along with some tunes through one, but didn't have a mic. I did have a pair of cheap walkman headphones, though, and so I plugged them into the mic jack.
Only one of the tiny speakers gave any response (stereo-male into mono-female after all). But getting a tight cup around the harp with it in the palm of my hand, and cranking up the volume, made some pretty decent noise. Emphasis on noise, but hey, in a pinch some beginners might get a vague notion of how they sound amplified, at minimal cost.
Now, if I taped that little speaker inside a TP tube.......Nah!
