Subject: Amp misery

I'm having a problem with my original Ampeg Reverberocket 2. It intermittantly
makes a hiss/ring sounding distortion during tightly cupped play at moderate or
loud volumes. The problem is much worse on some notes, particularly hole 6
blow on a C diatonic harp (it occurs almost every time this note is played). The
problem occurs with both an old Kent bullet and a Shure convetional vocal mic.
It is not affected by the tone controls or use of the reverb. The amp also rarely
makes a buzz/ring sound when there is no mic connected. The amp tech at
a local shop thought it was a loose connection from the power supply and fixed
the connection for $40, but the problem continues. I live in Iowa City.

I'm new to this amp stuff. Anyone have suggestions?
