Douglas T comments upon facial hair:

This brings up a technical point .... I couldn't >play chromatic without a lot of pain when I had a beard. Play C. play C#, move >up an octave and scream as the slide traps your hair. Hmm.. remind me not to invite you to dinner, Douglas! During what course, salad or entree? ;^)
As to the pain of harmonicizing with facial hair, I must agree: A chromatic is murder on my handlebar mustache. So are the cheaper 10-holers, like the Huang Silvertone and the Hohner Pocket Pal, due to the gaps between the reedplate and covers.

And on the real or imagined differences between harmonica designs and materials, Vern says:
>I have a wager waiting for anyone who thinks he can do it blindfolded!!
I have four 10-hole harmonicas, all tuned to the key of C; a MB, a Pocket Pal, a Golden Melody (gold-plated) and a Huang Silvertone. I cannot detect any difference in tonal quality between them. I will say that the Pocket Pal and the Huang are easiest to play, apparently because they are the oldest and are "broken in", and the GM seems to be the "stiffest".
Anyway, my nickel's worth.
