I've found that simply holding the harmonica out the car window for about 15
minutes per side while going over 40 MPH (e.g. enough speed to cause it to
sound) before playing will greatly extend reed life. Rick Epping of Hohner
recommends playing it sporadically and gently for the first week, using no
bends and such. This gives the reeds time to break in.
