Transistors will never get the sound of tubes. However, YOU may like the sound of the amp (especially after playing a Kustom :-) My advice is to drag your favorite harp mic down to the store, crank the amp, and try it. You may need a long cord to minimize feedback if it's a typical music store.

15 watts and an 8" speaker are a good combination. I use a Fender Champ, which I believe is rated around there, and uses an 8". It sounds incredible. Of course, it's a real class A (single output tube) vacuum tube amp.

I'm surprised you can't find a silver face vacuum tube Champ in the $100 price range. The blackface seems to be more money, but I'm not convinced it's really worth it.
